In the wake of all the tragedy that took place in Haiti this winter we mustn’t be afraid to show our pride for the tiny nation that erupts with culture. I know we all watch the news and wait for stories of miracles to out weigh the tragic ones. We pray our donations went into the right hands and even more so, the ideas for rebuilding all come to fruition. Some might say this is no time to celebrate anything. But even when the progress of all the relief efforts still remain to be seen, we have to have faith that it will all turn out to be better, sooner than later. This is just another tiny reminder for everyone to never stop praying for Haiti. And, to all my rice and beans, and plantain, eating Haitian people, I hope today of all days, your head is still held high, and heart is filled with joy. I wish you a Happy Haitian flag day.

Some time ago I entered a contest for a chance to become a contracted http://www.piperlime.com/ stylist, and a possible chance to appear on fashion based reality show the “Rachel Zoe Project” on the Bravo network. While I unfortunately didn’t place or anything, I did receive a lovely email from one of the editors encouraging me in my pursuit of styling. The contest challenged us a chance to show off our styling talents via http://www.polyvore.com/ while giving us three unique scenarios to work with and make our own. Humbled by my unexpected “honorable mention”, I just wanted to share one of mine with you guys:

Scenario: High School Reunion

…Since it’s been a long time and she’s grown up a lot she understands that being stylish doesn’t have to mean “showing off” or doing too much. I kept her look smart and seasonally fresh by putting her in: a strapless off white sequined silk chiffon belted dress to show off those amazing legs, metallic leather sandals, thick gold couture necklace then topped it off with the Angular shoulder fuchsia blazer for an unexpected wow factor. I added a simple black clutch to tie it all in and to hold the essentials, cell phone, lipstick, identification. This outfit is very appropriate for the occasion; it’s mature and sexy without being over the top. Put simply, it’s a touch of class, for the head of the class. Here’s a famous quote from Stevie I love, and happens to be his living testimony in a nutshell: “Just because a man lacks the use of his eyes doesn't mean he lacks vision”. Even though the Spring weather has been acting a little aloof as of late [shout out to Global Warming] we must celebrate its arrival for fashion's sake. Dressing for spring, especially in New York, can be really tricky since one day its 75 degrees and 40 the next. Don't fret my pets, as a matter of fact; take advantage of all the range in temperature. This is a season where you can wear a coat, flip flops, a trench, light denim jacket & boots in the same week without looking like a crazy person; you have to love that, right? This Spring, classic floral dresses, nautical cardigans, sweet tees and jeans, jackets with intricate detail & statement making jewels are some of the items giving me fever!

A Dash of Life: Computer Love

EHarmony, match.com, chemistry.com, so on and so forth, are we for it or against it? I want to hear your opinions! In recent conversations with many of my friends regarding dating and dating websites there seems to a lot of a back and forth over the ordeal of finding love on the net. One of my dear roomies says "Rosie, it’s the same principle walking into a bar full of strangers and meeting someone there". Good point, right? One of my guy friends simply says "C’mon B, it’s what desperate unattractive chics do, chill with that". Hmm…we'll leave that alone, for now. [lol] I was thinking though, if the whole point of these sites is to match you up with someone who you are compatible with, in theory it makes a lot of good sense, no? So why the bad stigma? Perhaps its the horror stories of people being dishonest on their profiles or not showing up for dates...as a matter of fact, a divorce lawyer I know recently told me her client's grounds for divorce is "My Husband is on match.com" [How you like those apples?]. Obviously it is more than possible to experience these things in regularly too. Maybe I question the skepticism because I'm guilty of it myself when it comes to this. Call me old fashioned but I appreciate the organic way you can meet someone through mutual friends, by chance, or in any other social situation. But what if all of those ways just haven't worked out? Is it so bad to want to cut out the [potential] BS and get hooked up virtually? Let's be honest, love doesn't make relationships work, compatibility and the willingness to work at it are the major factors most people are missing. Yeah, yeah, I know every relationship and situation is special but I don’t want to get specific. The point I’m trying to make here is; since you still never know what people are looking for when you meet them the in general, is it so bad to meet them on a site that not only serves a common purpose in what you’re looking for, but matches you up with whom they think you're compatible with. And the other question is, am I crazy for considering this? Do you agree with my roommate or my guy friend? Talk to me people...

Every once in a while comes an unforgettable person who comes into the world to fulfill a purpose. In the short time he was here with us on earth, The Notorious B.I.G managed to raise the bar for Hip-Hop music and those who've followed him have since been competing with his spirit. “The best who ever did it” as they say, he meant a lot of things to a lot of people. To me, Biggie was the guy I had no business listening to at thirteen years old because I had no clue what he meant until I started watching Gangster movies and Shows like South Central on TV [too many gun and paraphernalia references]. However, once I “got it” though, Biggie became one of the most lyrically clever artists of my time, another reason I’m so in love with hip-hop and one of the best story tellers I’ve heard to date. R.I.P, B.I.G.

Thank you TV Gods! Despite all the hoopla between Cablevision and [greedy ass] ABC the Academy Awards still managed to show up on my TV screen last night, and I couldn't have been happier. It seems the two companies’ were feuding over finances which caused us to suffer without the station from midnight to about mid-Oscar festivities. The evening was a great one for a lot of Films including Precious, The Hurt locker and the James Cameron phenom, Avatar. Obviously of theses films were fabulously influential and lived up to their hype so congratulations to them and the other films nominated. Now I can go on about the films, or I can get to the fly already! Some people watch to see who wins; I mostly watch to see who’s dressed the best. Here are my favorites from the night: From the Top Left to Bottom Right- Zoe Saldana, Jennifer Lopez, Rachel McAdams, Elizabeth Banks Vera Farmiga, and Cameron Diaz.

Dash of Life: Reflecting on Haiti

So I haven't been posting lately due to a lack of inspiration. The tragedy in Haiti has weighed heavy on my heart, and other things [mainly laziness] have put me on a blogging mental fast. A little over a month ago, my native country was hit with the toughest natural disaster any country has had to face in history. To be quite honest everything I enjoyed about my little blog just seemed so miniscule and irrelevant in the wake of all the horror I was watching on CNN. I really couldn't think of anything to write about and have been lax on how trying to figure out how to find the words to express just how much this had really affected me. I can say that I’m one of the lucky ones, who have been fortunate enough to communicate with family. Thank God for that. I love the way that our people have kept their spirits up this whole time and haven’t lost faith in God. I’m grateful for all the efforts that the U.S. has made as well the people who've used their celebrity for good. I have so much [extra] love for Wyclef, and Yele. I myself have been to benefits, donated to organizations, worn my flag proudly and have prayed and prayed… I mostly find myself wishing I was in a better position so that I could do way more. Then a couple of days ago while listening to “Moment of Clarity” by S.Carter, these simple lyrics hit it hit me like a ton of bricks: “…and I can’t help the poor if I’m one of them, so I got rich and gave back, to me, that’s the win-win” – And I thought. “Duh”. How can I do great things if I’m mediocre in my way of life? Everything I’m doing and attempting to do is for the benefit of my future, and thus the future of my people. Success and hard work go hand in hand so if I’m lax in my ways, no goal will accomplish itself, therefore not putting me in a better position to do more. All Things Fly is a reflection of the things that I love and want to contribute to in my career endeavors as well as influence me. [Fashion, Music, and Life] I genuinely believe that doing what you love is the best way to be successful, so I intend on sticking to the plan and see how far it will take me so I can give back at all times and have the financial flexibility to be a major contributor to all levels to my native Haiti, amongst another places in need. I hope you readers who enjoy this blog continue to support it, I sincerely appreciate the love. Hit that follow button if you haven’t already done so, tell a friend to tell a friend, and all that. In the meantime let’s all continue to be steadfast in the pursuit of our dreams so we can position ourselves at the top and be able to be positively influential.

I LOVE A WELL DRESSED MAN. Heck, I love any well dressed human being period, but let's just focus on the men right now. All of the men featured here typically have or are evolving with a great sense of style. These moments are when they just took it to another level. I've been a fan of Trey Songz since he had a "dollar and a dream" a wife-beater and cornrows, and I'm loving the way his fashion choices have matured as of late! Here he is in a clean cut wearing a three piece Hounds tooth suit with an eggplant colored tie at DJ. Clue's Birthday Party in NYC in early February- tres sexy! Who’s better than Ari Gold?! The talented Jeremy Piven is pictured here at the SAG awards in July rocking a classic tailored Black suit and skinny tie, but looks great in just about anything he puts on. Not to mention no one pulls off the "scruffy look" like he does. Maxwell, fortunately made a huge comeback this year, here he is with a clean cut and a very gangster double breasted brown pin striped suit the pretty wings are all a flutter around him at The BET Awards in July. From the first time he addressed the nation as the President to speaking at President Clinton’s Global Initiative in October he’s given us nothing but refined tasteful suiting like in this navy blue with silver accent ensemble. Barack Obama has got to have the worst job in the world right now, but he continues to look good doing it. Ladies and gentlemen: Usher Raymond! My was mouth agape when he stepped out in this military style Jacket, shades and gloves during HBO’s Inauguration special in Washington DC. After he let go of the durag and the pant dropping stage, Usher seldom disappoints me when it comes to fashion. His swagger is on a trillion right here…My goodness, will you just look at him?! SEQUINS is the new black and has got to be my favorite trend in fashion right now. Once upon a time when people said "sequins" I cringed at the thought of over-the-top fitted calf length evening dresses worn by ladies with heavy makeup, hair and jewels. So basically I thought of the TV drama Dynasty. But just like everything else circa '80's it's reared it used-to-be ugly but now fabulous head! BCBG made a great grey shirt like/vest with silver sequins detail years ago, that I love and will never get tired of wearing. [Shout out to my former discount, sigh.] Close to three years ago I saw Nelly Furtado rock a Black Sequins Beret and began obsessively looking for one, fast forward to the Spring of '09 I finally got one. [Shout out to Forever 21 and my roomate "Beans"!] Now I'm on another mission, this time for the perfect, sequin JACKET. I think this is an investment piece. This style of jacket allows you to dress up any outfit in a snap, you'll get alot of use out of it especially during the HOLIDAY SEASON and if it "goes out of style" it'll come back. It's been reported that she's doing well and her and her boyfriend of five years couldn't be happier about their new addition. Hmmm...Interesting. Funny how having a successful modeling career sort of excuses you in the media, from the stigma of a "typical teenge mother". Let this be me!? Nothing but drama. [LOL] Ms. Dunn either has a great support system, or simply doesn't care what people have to say. In any case, I wish her well.

Music Fly- Anticipation Proclamation, December Edition

December is shaping up to be a good month for Hip-Hop and R&B music as I anticipate the release of these new albums! Alicia Keys. [Sigh] It's so serious that her name was the only thing I needed to say in that last sentence. Her talent is unparallel and there's no other piano playing, song writing, hip swaying, singer in her class. I'm a huge fan, and judging from the three new singles I've heard from The Element of Freedom [my favorite being "Try Sleeping with a Broken Heart"] I'll continue to be. I didn't doubt it; she had me at "I keep on falling". The Neptune affiliated rap Duo Clipse is back with “Until the Casket Drops” and while I can't say I’m their biggest supporter, I will say they're better than most artists out and I do like their style a lot. Sure they make a lot of paraphernalia references, but since they do it in the form of art, it’s all good. The multi-talented Chris Brown is making headlines with his third release Graffiti. His first album was a classic, the second one was just as great. I think the "I can transform you" single [and video] is one of the hottest out now and I am overtly in love with the song "Crawl". Glad to see Breezy's back, like he never left. What can I say about Robin Thicke? He's soulful, handsome, and has a great vocal range! I loved his second album Evolution so much I went on a mad hunt for the first one, you know, when he was sporting long tresses and a messenger bike? Yep. However, as of late, all the videos I've seen him in so far have me a little weary. I don't know man..."sex sells" but you're married to Paula Patton Mr., take it easy. I do suppose it makes sense though, considering the fact that the album is called Sex Therapy, right? We’ll see where this goes. The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul is here, Stronger than ever, you can’t deny the power of Mary J. Blige. She’s continuously been an artist that you can blindly trust with music. I know a bunch of people who feel like the music isn’t as good since she’s been drama free, but come on guys; you know we couldn’t handle TWO “Whitney Houston- like” situations, [insert screw-face here] so stop it.

Happy Birthday to the Jigga-man! If you’ve been reading this or any other blog I'm featured on, you know I'm sort of a “Hov-aholic”. It's no secret to anyone who knows me personally or comes in contact with me that Jay-Z's my absolute favorite rapper. I have every album; been to a bunch of his concerts, quote him regularly and partake in countless debates about which one of his albums are the best and "who killed who" on what record with my fellow fans. To be quite frank the guy is amazing. He has great lyrics, metaphors, story telling abilities, incredible flow(s) and not to mention, swagger out the wazoo. From Reasonable Doubt to The Blueprint III to every mix tape, collaboration and beef record in between, it’s been awesome to watch and listen to him evolve. He's also an incredible business man, who's not only invested in his talents, but in the talents of others making him a heavy hitter in the corporate settings of music. He's gone from a kid with a lot of ambition to a massive media conglomerate and living proof that anything really is possible. He's not just a rapper; he's a motivating factor.

Here we go again...a collaboration that no one could've expected! Well, maybe it's not so far fetched anymore to see designers cheapen up these days. About a week or two ago, I excitedly posted about Zac Posen creating a sportswear line that will be sold in Saks Fifth Avenue come 2010 [Refer to “Posen has Spoken” for details]. Now it seems that Mr. Haute Couture is all about the affordable fly since he's now teamed up with Target! I read in UK Vogue’s site that Zac will be joining the retailers’ Go International Collection, which includes the likes of designers such as, Thakoon, and hot young Bay area native Erin Fetherston. Alexander McQueen and Anna Sui have already graced Target with their designs and although I failed to purchase either one, they looked pretty fab from what I saw. Obviously I'm really anxious to see what Zac will come up with. The collection will only be available to purchase in select stores and on line from April 25th to May 3oth 2010, since that's not, like tomorrow and you have a million things on your mind, I'll keep you posted along the way. Fly Music- A Star is Born

Sometime in the Spring of this year, a friend and musical soul mate of mine were at a social event, when he turned to me and said: "Yo, J.Cole is the future" and gave me "the face". Unfamiliar with the name, I paused, looked at him, and it was then that I knew, I had to know what he knew. You know? So I went on MySpace Music and discovered that I might have been "napping" for awhile. From ‘The Come Up” to “The Warm up” I eagerly listened to these mix tapes filled with classic tracks sampled by Gil Scott-Heron, Nas and even records produced by the artist himself. I'm no mix tape expert and I can say that before this brief era I hadn't listened to any mix tapes since all of Lil Wayne's mysteriously appeared on my ipod playlist courtesy of my big brother. I do however genuinely enjoy the concept of rappers/ emcees rhyming over previously released songs adding their own sixteens to the music. J.Cole's lyrics are anything but typical. He's not afraid to discuss his personal life experiences in college in his relationships, and association with people. Because of his flow he also doesn't have the stigma of a "typical down south rapper" either; of course I like to credit his time in the concrete Jungle for that. After being signed to Roc Nation he started to generate a buzz amongst hip-hop fans and people quickly compared him to newcomer, Drake. To me they're completely different rappers, so get over it people, listen to the music. I also dig his humility thus far: I read in XXL magazine once that he refused an offer to “hob-nob” with Diddy at a party because he didn't feel like he was at the level where he should be doing that yet, and rather just focus on the music. In that same article, he also said that he's aware folks wouldn't be so intrigued if he wasn't signed to Jay-Z's label. It’s all about the music for me, so on behalf of hip-hop fans all over, thanks for bring us this warm breeze, "Fayettenam". J. Cole him self makes the darkness [of hip-hop] seem so bright, and I'm Feelin’ like things gon be alright.

Award Show Fly- AMA Performance Outfits

I watched the American Music Awards the other night and my favorite part of the night was of course, the performances. Kelly Clarkson and Lady Gaga’s performances were the best vocally to me, but when it came to the outfits four people stand out in my head Fergie, Jennifer Lopez, Alicia Keys and Jay-Z. J.Lo made a come back with her new single “Dancing in my Louboutins”, unfortunately before she changed into her custom made “red bottoms” she fell on her bottom. But when you’re a forty year old mother of twins, dancing around in front of a boxing ring, leading a slew of muscle bound men, wearing a gold and black lace ensemble equipped with asymmetrical leather straps and sequin boxing shoes, looking fierce, who cares?!? Fergie joined her group the Black Eyed Peas in a melody of their many hits, wearing a black strapless shiny body suit with bootie accentuating ruffles, decorative fishnet-like stockings and knee high “Loubi’s”. [Can I get a Boom-Boom POW?!] Ok, so ever since Lil Mama ruined the first ever live performance of Jay-z & A. Keys' “Empire State”, I feel like I subconsciously anticipate this performance over any other at award shows. It’s lived up to the songs’ greatness every time so far, and this time because of the fashion. Ms. Keys was in a tailored backless black pant suit with gunmetal detailing and Jay-Z in a cream colored full tuxedo, black pants, black bowtie, and accessorized with a broach on the left side of his jacket, the two represented for Frank Sinatra very well. They were all class, all the way, all very New York, takes notes children.

Well...If I told you guys that I had an icon hanging out in my closet then you wouldn't believe me. So that is how she became the sweet tee. Last weekend I was on Fifth Avenue, desperately trying NOT to shop. [I'll pause so you can laugh now] Well, as you've guessed that didn't go so well once I stepped into the Zara. So after I made this $29.99 purchase, I started to wonder how long I'd been walking this earth not knowing about this tribute to Grace Jones? So I did a little research and apparently there was also a grey sweatshirt which is also pictured here. I adore any model that paved the way for chocolate colored women to make a name for themselves on and off the runways of fashion! She's one of the original divas in the game and I'm proud to walk around with that huge lively expression of hers on my chest.

My favorite new American and fellow eighty's baby designer Zac Posen [aka The King of the red carpet evening dress, as per Vogue] is making a sportswear line for US retail chain store Saks Fifth Avenue! “Clap for ‘Em”! "We've had so much pressure from press and retailers to build out our collection into this more American sportswear look," "To me, it's more appropriate to build a whole brand and collection around this price point. Chic sportswear should be at this price point. Designer dresses and cocktail pieces should be at a more expensive price point" the New York native told WWD. He must have received all those letters, and emails, and smoke signals from me. Ok…I kid, I kid, but I really can't explain just how excited I am! Everything he makes is so FLY! So far this collection is set to feature everything from tees, to tanks to jackets and more. And for those who are worried about the quality of the items, Zac had this to say: "It's not Zac-for-less, it's not the little sister collection at all," said Posen. "The dresses - that's something I can do with my eyes closed. This is about a new identity...I treat a T-shirt as a T-shirt should be treated, with a lot of love." [Sweet!] And there you have it, the fashion will not be dumbed-down or denied! I can think of few people who will appreciate that.

If you’re anything like me, then you’ve noticed this awful trend that has been spreading worse than the swine flu, for more than 2 years. It’s been seen among every hood, suburb, nationality, age group, race, color and creed. If you haven’t guessed it yet, I’m talking about people wearing SUNGLASSES WHEN THERE’S NO DAMN SUN. If you’re as sick of it as I am, put a fist in the air. I honestly can’t believe we’ve allowed this to go on for so long. I don’t know where it started but it’s gone way too far. I’ve been trying to make sense of it for a very long time now, and I came up with a few scenarios.

THEY REALLY THINK THEY’RE TOO COOL. These bozos have it in their head that wearing sunglasses in the club gives them some type of swag. Damn shame. Do you see them?? If you haven’t paid close enough attention to them, just imagine you’re filming an episode of National Geographic’s but you’re in the club and not the jungle. Just watch them from afar for like 5 minutes. Notice that they walk around the club like they’re rappers or something. It’s like they’re actually embodying the foolishness they see on TV. I don’t understand how we’ve allowed this to go on for so long. First and foremost, you can’t see. If you can’t see then you can’t defend yourself. Your subject to get punched in the face and you won’t even know who did. I was taught that as a man you’re supposed to be able to defend yourself at all times, NO EXCEPTIONS.

I know this may sound a little harsh but trust me, I’m not a hater. I’m sorry but it makes me sick to my stomach every time I see this “tom foolery” in the club or when it’s dark outside. Look, I know I have a strong opinion of certain things, but I’m trying to be objective and give these people the benefit of the doubt sometimes. I’ve been searching for a viable excuse to give ya’ll a pass but I can’t come up with anything that makes realistic sense. To be honest, the reality is these clowns are using sunglasses as a camouflage to keep people from seeing how corny they really are. Just think about it for a sec. if you can’t look a person in their eyes, they might be able to fool you into believing they have some type of swag or personality. They’ve probably practiced the walk in the mirror, bought all the clothes, and even rehearsed the dialect to where they think they sound as cool as a Jay-Z. They only thing that they can’t fake is their soul. If you look a person in their eyes, their corniness will pour out of their eyes, nose, mouth and ears almost like squeezing a jelly. They can’t hide it no matter how hard they try. And ladies I know you get mad when meet a dude you think might be alright. But when you talk to them later in the week you realize you caught a brick. Sunglasses allow them to be whomever they want. It’s like their actors in a Broadway play and the lights are blinding them and they can’t see the crowd. They can act out any part they want and have the audience believe whatever they want. Don’t fall for it.

I’m sorry, but ladies, I blame this on you. You should never give a dude some play wearing sunglasses in the club. If the women unite against this abomination, it can be huge. It can be as big as the women’s rights movement of the 60’s. Hold up. Now that I think about it, some of you ladies are doing this foolishness too. Yeah, don’t frown up your face now. You’re just as guilty as these dudes. I’ve seen you walking around thinking your cute because your sunglasses matched your bag and you didn’t want to mess up your outfit. You think you get a PASS??? HELL NO!!!! I’m lost now. It pains me to see such clown behavior amongst our people. I just want us to get better. I’m at a loss right now. I really don’t know what to do. I guess all I can do is beg you, please, please, please, when the sun goes down or you walk into a building, take the sunglasses off. If not for yourself, do it for your country, do it for your children, do it for the future. We’re in a real “dark” place right now and we need everyone’s help to get through these tough times and move so we can be GREAT.

Without taking anything from her ability to cope with her issues or her incredibly beautiful Stephane Rolland ensemble, I just want to know who voted. Rihanna is one of my favorite fashionistas, no question. She does what she does and does it well. But honestly, prior to this "incident" with ex- Boyfriend Chris Brown, she hasn't stood out to me as a "pillar of the community" or "I am woman hear me roar" type, nor has she been entertaining us for that long, so what did she get this award for? I read on the Glamour Website that the iconic Iman presented it to her and mentioned in her speech Rihanna is becoming a spokesperson against domestic violence. Duly noted, but do people win Grammy Awards before their single is out? I'm just saying. I also read that Rihanna is Glamour's Cover girl for their December Issue. I should just end it here, right? But I digress; maybe what really makes this strange to me is the fact that she shares the spotlight with some of the most influential women in pop culture this year and in our time. Check out SOME of the players in the line up: Stella McCartney [awesome designer, animal rights activist,] Serena Williams [Founder of a Kenyan school, tennis star, writer] Marissa Mayer [Vice President of Google] Maria Shriver [woman's rights activist, California's First Lady] Michelle Obama [The First Lady, Children's rights activist, fashionista, hello?!] and THE Maya Angelou [no explanation necessary] I don't know, maybe they meant to give her best dressed I sure would've, she is killing this dress! What do you get when you mix pink lipstick, an animated personality, edgy lyrics and a touch of raunchiness together? Nicki Minaj of course. After I decided to click on a link from one of my beloved social networking sites I finally got an understanding of who or what the "hype' was about. Ms. Minaj had been floating around in random conversations all over the internet on some of my favorites sites before then; and I hadn't stopped to pay attention at any point yet. But after I listened to about four tracks off the “Beam Me Up Scotty" mix tape, I was in. The now Young Money affiliated rapper hails from Jamaica, Queens, and was discovered on her MySpace page. We can thank Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music and Art for setting her in motion, which is actually the same school the movie "Fame" was inspired by. How do you like that? So far she's been featured in Urban DVD magazine, The Come Up [not to be confused with the J.Cole mix tape that we'll get to soon enough ;-)] mix tapes with Little Wayne, a remix with T.I. and is also on Robin Thicke's new single, "Shakin It For Daddy". Seriously folks, that's the name of the song, promise. But in any case, my opinion is that her freestyle ability, risqué wardrobe and material girl attitude are all a force to be reckoned with. Up against a group of men during the freestyle segment on the BET Hip-Hop Awards she proved just that, here's an excerpt from that freestyle: Call me Dracula 'cause all I do is count tricks/ your money mini and I ain't talking 'bout the mouse trick/ these girls running like I just threw the bouquet/ they know I'm headed to the top like a toupee," Minaj spit. Whenever people around me have issues with each other whether light or heavy, the one phrase that pops in my head is "What's Beef?” And I just start rapping the song in my head. Ha-ha ...no kidding, I promise. It's one of my favorite songs by the late and great Notorious B.I.G, only because it makes a lot of sense. So this week, I dedicate the sweet tee to the Jay-Z and Beanie Siegel "Beef", just hug it out guys, it's not like anyone's going to “see anyone in ICU" for this, ok? Ok. Refer to the previous post if you don’t know what I’m talking about.

A skinny bald headed kid from Brooklyn once said “If every nigga in your click is rich, your click is rugged nobody would fall cus everyone would be each others crutches” perhaps this was the mindset he had when creating Rocafella records along with two friends in ’96. They’ve since split and aside from a few bars here and there on record; the actual cause of the demise has not been confirmed by any of the parties involved. So here's the thing: Beanie Sigel, who was once part of the extended Roca la familia has released a Jay-Z diss record, entitled Average Cats. He also had a very emotional call-in interview heard around the world explaining his feelings. I can specify everything he said this entire post, but between the track and the 38 minute interview, I think you have enough to reference.

After I finally sat down and listened to everything, I was truly at a loss for words. I thought, wow, this sounds bad. Considering how close those two were and how loyal Beanie’s been to Jay over the years, this puts him in a horrible position, bad enough everyone is running with this “evil doer” thing. So, damn, am I supposed start giving Jay-Z the side eye for not looking out for his boy, now like everyone else? On record, he nicely told grown men they “couldn’t sit on his lap”, but as it turns out, Beanie said he’s “not looking for gifts out Santa Clause’s sack”. Ok…So what we talking bout?

In Jay-Z’s statement he recognized that Beanie has “a lot to complain about” But to me it seems he may have merely miss-managed his assets at one point in time. Hov jokingly said “It’s impossible to drive two cars at once…how can you only sell 800, 000 records and Drive two Bentleys?” But Beans is saying that Jay didn’t teach him how to fish, he only fed him. Ok, who’s to blame for that? If you go into Business with someone because you claim “they got you no matter what” the mindset really isn’t fully prepared for the possibility of that ending. Let’s be adults here, this isn’t a lemonade stand. In dealing with big businesses such as the record industry they’re contracts, deadlines, loans and countless other details involved. If someone has invested in you, can you really blame them for not making a return on the investment? I bet you can, if you still believe they’ll be your “crutch” no matter what. But shouldn’t you take ownership in your failures when they’ve set you up for success? Beans sounds hurt, and I felt really bad for him at first. I mean, Damon Dash went behind his back and [allegedly] embezzled and, Jay-Z was harsh, didn’t want to be responsible for his whereabouts and didn’t offer him any moral support while in jail. All things considered, what did Beanie Sigel do? How did he help himself on the State Property owner/ Rocafella rapper platform? What’s he responsible for? Well, he took on two [Bentley] car notes (something that depreciates with time) when he could’ve invested in his businesses and artistry. And why was he, at this point in his life in and out of jail so much anyway? He’s actually said to have paid out $200,000 worth of lawyer fees but spent only $750 for the LLC of State Property. Priorities out of order much? Boggles my mind. Repeating the same actions never gets anyone different results.

Quite frankly, Beanie Sigel says a lot of things that make me raise my eyebrow at Jay-Z, but if he hasn’t spoken to him in two years, this could be a major communication fail or misinterpretation of badly orchestrated business deals. Very shortly after his interview with Beanie Sigel the Radio VJ Charlemagne Tha God was let go from The Beat 100.3 in Philly, on grounds that the radio station is now looking to “move in a different direction.” Sigh. Yes people, I know what you’re thinking, He don’t run rap no more, he runs the map... But consider this: when you are as huge a star as he is, people will most likely just blame you for things because you’re an easy target. Further more, rumor has it Beanie may be moving toward the G Unit camp, way to market that new album fiddy! Guess it’s on to the next one. But first, I need to know how you feel. Speak your piece.

How fly are these? Artist Robert Indiana meets up with Converse to make a little loving. In the spring of 2010, Converse will be releasing their classic Chuck Taylor's revamped with a “lovely” message. Keeping everyone in mind and no one left out, the sneaker brand and Mr. Indiana have found a way to be pleasing to all those in favor of the laid back favorite. For your Chuck “low” lovers, “Love” is written all-over in black print and for those who prefer the "Hi's", the “Love” artwork is on the side-panel and on the mid-sole. Both sneakers also carry the signature of the artist, either on the in-sole or on the tongue. These are really fly. This sneaker is an all around winner for me, casual and chic. Jay-Z in a very festive Yankee Jacket, Denim & fresh out the box Timberland Boots. Ms. sweet on the Keys opted for a bright lavender leather jacket, with matching knee high boots over her fitted pants topped with bamboo earrings. So, I literally just got done watching the BET Hip-Hop awards and all I can think about is Fatima Robinson's outfit. The award show overall wasn't great, the best part of the show was the cyphers in between commercials. Hip-Hop was very much in full force in the cyphs, but that's in another post. I won't dissect now...[Quick Bio time] Fatima Robinson is a choreographer for variety of artists and has been killing it in the music industry for years on end. But ladies and gentlemen of All Things Fly, speaking of killing it... when she stepped on stage to accept her Award- my mouth was agape. She was giving us fashion all the way and I loved it! The jacket, the skirt, the red lipstick, the loubis. A (very fly) hats off to you Fatima!

The hot boys of Manchester United and Real Madrid are trading places. David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo now have even more in common than the critical acclaim they receive from their sport (Soccer). By the end of next year, team captains will have both been the faces of Emporio Armani Underwear collection. Come spring/summer 2010, Ronaldo will replace Beckham who has fronted the campaigns for four seasons with wife Victoria, who joined him as the face of the women’s range for the past two seasons. When I look at these ads it’s really hard to believe that this woman has not one, but two children! What’s my excuse? I need to hit the gym! (lol). As hot as she is though, Mrs. Beckham will also be replaced with young on-screen siren Megan Fox. Neither Ronaldo’s or Fox’s campaign shoots have taken place yet, but considering the pictures in this post I have a feeling they’ll both be naturals. In more undergarment news, rumor has it that David Beckham is talking about developing a Beckham-branded men's underwear line, well, isn’t that fitting?

Haute-Couture or Haute-Mess??

One of my favorite things to do on my past time, or my anytime is to log on to my twitter account and tweet my little heart out along with my friends and some very cool strange people I follow. In doing so, I find some very interesting articles and links that catch my attention such as this one and It makes me feel the need to speak. What you see above is black face on an Dutch supermodel Lara stone in a shoot photographed by Steven Klein styled by editor Carine Rotifield of French Vogue. Unfamiliar with the term black face? Well, so you know Webster had this to say about it; noun: 1.Makeup for a conventionalized comic travesty of Black people, especially in a minstrel show. 2.An actor wearing such makeup in a minstrel show. Now I don't know about you, but when I look at this, I think when will it end? I don't see fierce photo shoot, I don't see high fashion, I don't see artistry. Something else blocks all of the normalcy for me. I don't know, perhaps it's the "comic travesty of black people" thing. I mean really am I wrong to assume that there is something else behind this then doing "something different" to sell magazines? People have suffered, and fought and, marched and died trying to fight for the rights of African Americans along with other ethnicity's. Have some respect. This is not cool. Like a lot of industries, fashion has its fair share of racism, Iman, Naomi Campbell and Alek Wek are some models in the past and present that have been brave enough to publicly address the issue. I'm all for fashion and the arts but when do we draw the line between haute-couture and haute-mess??? Please speak on it, I'd love to know how you feel.

Mark Fast decided that twelve was new zero last month when he threw the "plus size" girls in the mix of the bite size [no quote necessary] ones during his show in London Fashion Week. Mark told In Style Magazine "I didn't think it would get so much attention. I just thought, 'They're beautiful. Let's do it. Let's have fun'". I would describe his line as one that is modern, soft and feminine & playful. It works for a variety of women including curvier girls. The designer also said "I was able to make the clothes specifically for them. Seeing them walking up and down the corridor was such a moment. It was exciting to see their characters in my pieces" In all honesty this was a great move both business wise and for the moral of the fashion industry. It's fabulous to see something other then the typical heroin chic stick figures on the runway. “After the show, we had a host of customers from size six to 16 coming in." This displays an excellent way of attracting more consumers to your product. Kudos to Mr. Fast, how ironic is his name in comparison to the women he’s tried to uplift though?!? HA! In any case, way to go against the grain!

Penelope Cruz must have lost her mind to take this role! Just Kidding, well, sorta; it’s been reported that in that upcoming Sex and the City movie she'll be playing Mr. Big's office temptress. The always impeccably redcarpet chic, five foot nothing, Academy award winning actress will attempt to seduce the now [finally] married John Preston away from Carrie Bradshaw (Main character played by Sarah Jessica Parker for those of you living under a rock). While filming at New York’s Empire Hotel this week it’s been said that Ms Cruz was looking ever so fierce in a backless number, well, no surprise there. I just hope she doesn't start getting harrassed with "homewrecker" hate in the streets, rumor has it Sex and The City fans are a little bit crazy. I'm just saying... In other news, for all those in favor of Smith Jerrod returning say “I”! Ok. Done. Jason Lewis will be returning along side the entire original cast for part two and in the words of Martha Stewert, that's a good thing. Ok, that’s all the info I’ve got and that’s all I’ll be giving even if I read another article on it, I don’t want to spoil it too much for you or me. However, I do think I speak for all of the fans when I say I am beaming with anticipation!!

First let me just say, I LOVE FASHION as you may have guessed, [lol] but really, at heart, I'm just a jeans and tee-shirt kinda girl. OK,OK, maybe that's a little bit of a lie, but like most people I do appreciate a great graphic tee shirt. And because over the years I've been fascinated by a bunch of the ones that I see and collected some pretty cools ones my self I've decided to add a segment to my blog called: sweet tee of the week. in this segment I'll feature a cool tee shirt that's caught my attention on the street, on the web, on a human being, even off my own shelves. For the official debut I'd like to dedicate this sweet tee to anyone with a dream and a plan of action. Pharell Williams teamed up with Jay-Z for the track entitled ambitious on the BP3 album and its basically a motivational song about what it takes to get to where you need to go despite the negative energy spew at you. If you haven't heard this song, both the artist choose to use a lot of profane ad libs to fully express their feelings to the youth being "brought down by society", as Pharell explained to MTV news. They wanted to express themselves in a pure form (for lack of a better term). That would explain all the "fuck ya's" But I feel them, its totally necessary in this case. The tee itself was also a collaboration from the two artists and is featured in the Billionaire Boys Club clothing line, its been out for about a month now and in New York City these these shirts can be found at the Billionaire's Boy's Club/ Ice Cream Flagship store in the Soho District or on Madison avenue in Barneys New York. It’s October! No, that isn't enthusiasm you hear, its shock. I mean, we hardly had a summer here in New York, everyday we were sort of “hoping for the best but expecting the worst”; this season truly dropped the bomb on us. However, G.O.O.D music is here with some heat for the fall season. Many of you are probably wondering who this random blonde guy in the car is so let me tell you. He is Ben Mclldowie and [his band] goes by the name of Mr. Hudson. If you were familiar with Kanye West's last album Heartbreaks & 808's he is on the track entitled Paranoid. His most recent collaboration is on BP3 with Jay-Z on Young Forever. Recently I did a Google search to find some more music from this band before I went ahead and blogged about it. I’d never want to Co-sign something for the hype or because it seems cool. I even have a three single rule for new artists; I have to love your first three singles or three tracks I’ve heard in order for me to purchase your cd. It is what it is. I’m no expert at detecting talent, but so far I like what I’ve heard. And at the risk of putting him in a “British pop band” from London box, the music reminds me Cold Play [alternative rock] with a jazz like edge. If you’re into any of those genres of music, you’ll dig it too. If not, open your mind, you never know. Mr. Hudson’s first single ‘Supernova” off their second release Straight, no chaser is out now featuring boss Kanye the album is in stores Tuesday, the 5th of this month.

A Dash of: My Maxwell experience

Ok, its taken me long enough to write this. On Monday night my girls and I clicked our heels and headed to Madison Square Garden to see the Black Summer's Night Tour featuring Chrisette Michele, Common and starring Maxwell. Unfortunately we missed Chrisette due to a parking situation in NYC (Story of my life) but had the absolute pleasure of seeing the talented, rapper Common perform some of his hits along with R&B artist Bilal {remember him?). Common certainly did his thing I especially enjoyed the great tribute to hip-hop he did! Then, after the crowd got amped up to Jay-Z' & Alicia Key's Empire State anthem... the sexy, beautiful, Illustrious half Haitian & Puerto Rican man walked out in a heather grey, double vented suit worn with a crisp white shirt and simple a black belt and shoe combo. But do not be fooled, just because he was dressed straight out of a GQ magazine advertisement didn't stop him from putting on a heart stopping show. The outro to his CD played as images of him surfaced on the screen and he appeared, as you can imagine, immediately Victoria Secret panties magically turned into slingshots!! He did all of my and your favorites! I'm talking all of them, from Fortunate, to Lifetime, to Woman's Work and almost everything on his new release Black Summer's Night. His voice is incredible and his band in one word Phenomenal. I’ve literally been waiting to see Maxwell in concert for like ten years and it was worth the wait. This was one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to and that’s definitely saying a lot. There's nothing like live music.

H&M + Sonia Rykiel

H&M is at it again! The low-end high trend company has teamed up with the illustrious Sonia Rykiel aka "The Knit Queen" to form a collection due out December 5th. Other past designers have included Madonna, Matthew Williamson and Jimmy Choo [whose collection is in stores now as I type]. All of these designers brought some new and glamorously exciting to the brand without losing its youthful spirit. This collection will include Sonia's signature knit sweaters & dresses as well as accessories. And hold on to your garter ladies as it will also feature lingerie line as well which is a first in the history of the designer merges. The first portion of the collection will be out later this year as stated above and will bloom again, come spring of 2010.

Don Fisher Gone, The Gap lives on

GAP co-founder Don Fisher died yesterday after a battle with cancer. Fisher, along with his wife Doris, opened the first Gap store in 1969. [Hence, the 1969 line.]They took a simple tee shirt and jeans concept and turned it into an iconic store in the UK & US alike. Fisher stepped down as chairman of Gap in 2004 but had remained a director and executive of the brand. Chief executive and board chairman Glenn Murphy was quoted as saying; "Today we lost a friend, a mentor and a great visionary, Don and Doris took a simple idea and turned it into a brand a brand recognised as a cultural icon throughout the world and changed the face of retail forever."
How many people do you know haven't ever shopped in the GAP at one point or another? Unless you've been living under a rock, Gap Women/ Men, Baby/ Kids and Body have all been embraced by us or even hated at times for loosing its original luster. All the while, we've supported this brand & its growth throughout the years, thus making it forever relevent. Rest in peace Mr. Fisher, you've left a major mark in the Fashion Retail Industry.

Fashion's Night Out= Success!

Fashion's night out debuted on Thursday September 10th and it was indeed successful. I along with my partners in Crime and special a special guest gallivanted throughout New York City like a bunch of fanatical fashion obsessed fools. The city was on fire! You can't get energy like you get from this city anywhere else anyway, but when it involves fashion it’s on a whole other level. Our first stop was Macys' herald Square unfortunately Ms. Wintour was at the one in Queens. Upon my arrival I spotted the beautiful Amber Valetta & Tommy Hilfiger making their way out and into their cars. As I entered I heard the screams that lead me to the Fragrance department where Michael Kors gave out autographs and smiles. The very talented Rachel Roy was on the second level taking pictures with fans as her very new very affordably chic "Rachel" line flew off the hangers. Check out one of the pieces on Ms. Deejay! I just missed my opportunity for the meet & greet, but next time, right? Fifth Avenue was bombarded with people shopping, & browsing. Nine West looked like they were giving out free shoes, [imagine that] Juicy Couture was a mad house. Henri Bindle was flowing with alcohol, custom shoe makers and socialites. Down the street at Sean John, Mr. Sean himself was entertaining guests with Cypha Sounds on the ones & two's and a line outside that looked like BB Kings on a Saturday night. We reached SoHo where Rhianna was hopping from Store to Store "causing a stir" as twitter so eloquently put it. My favorite & latest import Top Shop got a visit from Vanessa & Angela Simmons while yours truly checked out the Boutique's clothes live Q&A section and took a bite of their delicious cookies. All and all a great way to spend an otherwise chilly and low key Thursday evening! I'm already anticipating next years' festivities!

I think they were missing someone in the "Run This Town Video"...thy name is Amber. Amber Rose who I didn't know a year ago has become one of my favorite overnight for no apparent reason sensations [aka "model"]. Never has anyone come out of no where and kept my attention like little miss bad ass over here. Once again, her shades are crazy, not a lot of people could pull this look off either! I digg it!

9/11 ,How could we forget?

It's been eight years but it feels like it was just yesterday that this tragedy took place and broke the hearts of millions. I'll never begin to understand how human beings could commit such heinous crimes against other human beings. The reality is though, we can't disect what we can't identify. So for everyone that has suffered, families and friends of victims, my heart will always go out to you. Stay strong, keep your faith and God Bless.

Fly Music- Damn it, You Need This!!!

If you are going to purchase two things for your entertainment this September these two things should be it. I've never been more serious in my life. Okay, maybe I have,[lol] but the point is, you need this. Blueprint 3 is Jay-Z's 11th album. I don't know if I'll ever be able to say that I purchased that many album from one artist and have always at least liked every single one. I mean, let's just be serious, this man is the best rapper alive; challenge that statement if you dare. I don't know why everyone is so timid about saying that aloud, anyway. The album is excellent. The flow, content, production, guest apperances, all of it is crazy. And no, I'm not just saying that cus I'm [more than] a fan, I'm just saying you will not regret this $9.98 at Target. Also If you're a mass transit commuter like me, do your self another favor and pick up the XXL issue as well. Pick it up if you're not too, obviously... Ninety percent of the magazine is Hov. It features breakdowns of his Blueprint album(s) and a great photo shoot in honor of Rocawear's 10th anniversary, the shoot is styled by none other than hip-hop's & my favorite stylist June Ambrose. You're sure to enjoy the pictures shot like scenes from some of his videos, my favorite is the "Excuse me miss" depiction. WHO IS that male model?!!?! Damn. - well, ENJOY! Definitely share your opinions about the album too, I'd love to know what you think as always.
